An Interview with Marilynn

Today we are interviewing Marilynn about her new book. Take a look at what we learned:

How many books have you written to date?

So far, I’ve written one series, “Becoming the Bride of Christ: A Personal Journey”, a grad gift, “Mom’s Little Black Book: Godly Advice for the High School Graduate”, an e-book, “Practical Thoughts on Becoming an Author”, which I’ve turned into a $15 19-day e-course, and my latest book to be published was “Dressed for Eternity”, which launched back in February.

You say you’ve written a course?

Yes, I realized that while some people don’t mind whisking through an e-book really fast; others prefer to take their time to process the information shared, and actually have a chance to work through it.  So I took a workshop I’d written around the book, and turned it into an e-course that comes to your email inbox over the course of 19 days.  Each day offers information, teaching, perhaps links to other content, and a daily task for the student to complete.

So what will a student of your course come away with?

They will come away with tools – mostly free, answers to common questions aspiring authors tend to ask, and some how-to’s regarding formatting a book for use in the self-publishing industry.

What book are you working on now?

Right now I have a new book in the works, called “A Year in Prayer With Jesus” where I take the reader through The Lord’s Prayer as a prayer guide, for 365 days.

How does that work?

Well, I’ve broken the Lord’s Prayer down into 7 points in an outline, and have taken each point as a principle of prayer when coming before God the Father in relationship as His child.  As a result, every single point for the entire year has it’s own Scripture verse, adding up to 2,555 verses in total, and each point also has it’s own prayer prompt, with room for the reader to add their own.

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work!

It was, but it was fascinating!  So much so that it commanded up to 8 hrs a day researching, compiling, verifying, etcetera until I was sure I had what I needed for 365 versions of each prayer point in the outline.

Do you have a sample of your work?

Actually, yes I do!  At my Facebook author page, there is a non-downloadable copy of the sample that is being offered on your blog today as part of the pre-launch tour for this book.  This sample covers one month only, but should give a decent idea of the rest of the book in that one month. Click on this link for the sample: https://www.facebook.com/Marilynn.Dawson.Author?ref=hl

Is each month dated?  As in – Monday, January 15th?

No.  Each day in the guide is numbered, but not dated so that a person can begin the prayer guide at any point in the year and not be bogged down by the realization that they jumped in late.  There is no such thing as late with this guide.  Your 365 days begin whenever you wish them to.  So a reader could begin on September 1st and go for 365 days while someone else could begin in October and go for the full 365 days.

A Year in Prayer With Jesus Front CoverThe perfect illustration of this would be, and honestly, this is a dream of mine, to get 365 people to pick up the book, either in paperback, PDF, or other digital format, and have every single one them start on a different day.  This would mean one person starting Day One on say January 1st, while the 365th person would start Day One December 31st of the same year.  The neat thing about this dream, is that various prayer points actually cover various people groups, missions organizations, nations, etc. and those groups would then be covered every single day for an entire year!  The thought gets me a bit excited actually!

Sounds like a great book, and a great dream to go with it!  So where can people find you online?

I’m all over the place online.  I’m sure I haven’t hit everywhere I could be, but this is my current list:
