Is the liberal view of the origin of man racist and hypocritical?

Modern liberalism notoriously holds to the notion that man is the product of some random chance of events and has evolved to be where he is because of his ability to survive. This idea was most widely accepted as a result of Charles Darwin’s publication of Origin of the Species in 1859. What most modern liberals do not talk about is that the subtitle for Darwin’s book was “The Preservation of the Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life.”

In Darwin’s book, The Decent of Man, and selection in relation to sex, published in 1871, he expounds upon the premise of “favoured races” by proposing that Europeans, Negroes, and Australians were different subspecies of humans, with European Caucasians being at the top.

With the publication of Darwin’s books, there was no shortage of criticism. As expected, people of faith widely denounced it. But, what many people do not know is there was just as much, if not more, from the scientific community. The criticism from the faith community did not deter Darwin, but the criticism from the scientific community caused him to write several editions to correct his errors. It was in his sixth edition in 1871 that he used the term evolution.

Many books have since been written that expound upon Darwinism and it is no surprise that many people reinforce their racist beliefs based on these works. In fact, the idea of separate races reinforced the creation of U.S. state laws banning interracial marriage. Arguments for the same were premised on the belief that if “Negroes” were not as evolved as whites then marriage between the two could be compared to a white person marrying a farm animal.

These evolutionary ideas were also used to justify Social Darwinism, which is the precursor to eugenics, or the attempt to keep separate or eliminate “lower races.” Every sort of evil mass movement from Marxism, Nazism, and the movement that is now known as Planned Parenthood, has had their roots or practice in this racist philosophy.

Simply stated, modern liberalism denies the fact that God made man in His image (Genesis 1:26-27) and goes to great lengths to shut down anyone who will disagree. The hypocrisy in their argument is that if people are taught that man is nothing more than an evolved ape, then how can they say it is wrong when they act like animals?

Practically speaking, if man is nothing more that an evolved animal, then how can any one say it is wrong to kill baby seals? After all, polar bears kill baby seals and they are animals. Likewise, if man is a danger to the baby seal population, it would be fair to say that polar bears are a bigger danger. If so, then wouldn’t it make sense that the time, effort, and expense of protecting baby seals would be redirected toward preventing and training polar bears not to eat them?

While all of this sounds ludicrous, it points out a simple fact that if a theory is not Biblically correct, it can not be logically correct. In theological terms this means that bad theology will always result in bad logic, which results in bad counsel and bad life application. This is because logic, by its very definition and etymology refers to the man Jesus Christ.

The way we prove this is simple. The English word logic is rooted in the Greek word logos. Logos is also the same root for the English word logo. We usually think of a logo as something that represents something. For example, when we think of “golden arches” we think of McDonalds. The golden arches symbol is the logo of McDonalds. However, it not only is a graphic on their sign, it is McDonalds. This is demonstrated by the fact that anyone who is not McDonalds who tries to use the golden arches logo has been successfully sued by McDonalds. McDonald’s argues that allowing someone to use their logo, confuses the public into thinking that the person using the logo is McDonalds. So, the golden arches logo represents and is McDonalds.

This concept of a logo representing and being something comes from the Bible. Logos is also the Greek root that is translated into English as “word.” Therefore, when we see the term “word” in the Bible it is referring to Greek word logos. In John 1:1, 14 we see the use of the term “word” referring to Jesus Christ:

(John 1:1 KJV)  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:14-17 KJV)  “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. {15} John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. {16} And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. {17} For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” (Emphasis mine)

In these verses, we see that Jesus Christ is the Word. If we substitute the Greek text, which uses “logos” where we see in English “word” in the verse, John 1:1 reads: In the beginning was the Logos, and the Logos was with God, and the Logos was God. Simply stated Jesus Christ is the “logo” of God. He not only represents God in the flesh, he IS God in the flesh. Therefore, if Jesus Christ is the “logo” of God, by the very word root He is also the logic of God. If He is the logic of God any use of “logic” must be based on the “Word” of God. To do otherwise, would be illogical.

Applying this to the origins of man, if we do not use logic, or Scripture, one can come up with all sorts of illogical concepts that lead to racism, hypocrisy, and much more. For example, neglecting to use logic or Scripture when it comes to helping people with life issues through counseling leads to illogical outcomes that gives no real hope (a topic for another discussion.

Finally, Psalms 14:1 says “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God.” If modern liberalism is right that there is no God, then there is no Jesus (1 John 2:22-23.) If there is no Jesus, then we have no hope because the Bible says that Jesus Christ is our hope (1 Timothy 1:1; Titus 2:13-15; Colossians 1:27). If we have no hope then we can not even say: “heaven help us!” (Psalms 146:5)
