Just a chunk of wood

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Psalm 139:14

just a chunk of wood
“But my initials are on the bottom of the boat, look and see.”

One day a father gave his young son a chunk of wood and said, “Make something with it”.  Now this son was very talented.  He began to widdle on this piece of wood and sand it, and polish it, and do it again. Until, finally after weeks, it was finished, unique, perfect, flawless in it’s being exactly what the boy wanted. A tiny oak sail boat. His father said, “Now it’s time to prove it. Take it to the creek and see what it will do.”  Excitedly the boy put the small boat in the water. Slowly, it circled then the current caught it. Away it sailed down the creek, fast and furious. Down cast the boy returned home to tell his father.  Weeks later the boy was in the small town and there in the window of a store he saw what looked like his boat sitting on a pedestal with a very high price tag on it. He ran in to see. He summoned the manager and began to recount his story and plead for his boat.  The manager said, “Sorry, I paid a good price for the boat and if you want it you’ll have to pay me.”  “But my initials are on the bottom of the boat, look and see.”  They were there, but so was the price tag.  “When you bring the money, you can have the boat,” the manager said again. The boy returned home to tell his father the story. “Well son, looks like you better get to work.  Find some odd jobs, mow lawns, wash cars, help your neighbors clean out their garages.”  Weeks went by and dollar by dollar the boy saved for his boat. Finally, the day arrived and before the store opened the boy was there staring at his boat in the window.  In he went with his hard earned dollars and said, “I am here to buy my boat back.” The man happily took his money and placed the boat in the young boys hands. It was his once again, because he redeemed his boat from another owner.

You are the boat!  Jesus made you uniquely, perfectly, exactly for His purpose for you. He handmade you in your mama’s womb (Psalms 139:13-16). You were put together by the Creator of the universe (Psalms 100:3). Then you were placed into the stream of life. Away you went, just as we all do. Into the world, to do that which is right in your own eyes. Oh, the pain of being lost, away from our Maker. Darkness, fearful, alone, then someone grabs us. They don’t see us the way He did. How much money am I worth to this new owner. What pleasure can I bring this greedy, evil, person. He sells me for a good price to another manager. But, my Maker is looking for me!  And when He finds me He’ll do whatever it takes to get me back. He is the REDEEMER! The One who buys back the lost.

Have you been redeemed? Do you know the pain of being in the hands of the owner who cares nothing for you. He desires to kill, steal, and destroy you. His name is Satan. But GOD, Our Father God loved us so much that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. God’s plan for you is for you to be saved from the ownership of any other manager. He wants you in His family. His family is redeemed with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot (1 Peter 1:19). What better news is there (Galatians 3:12)? Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us … You can be one of God’s children by repenting of your sin. (That’s going your own way, like the boat did). Then as Romans 10:9-13 shows clearly:

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God raised Him from the dead, that shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

This is His Plan for us. Will you call upon His name today? Revelation 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying Thou art worthy to take the book and to open the seals thereof, for THOU WAS SLAIN AND HAST REDEEMED US TO GOD BY THY BLOOD out of every kindred, and tongue  and people, and nation.
