In Part 3 of this series, we looked at Jesus’ Resurrection and we investigated what happened after His Resurrection. Now as we conclude the series, let’s look at some conclusive evidence for how we can know Jesus is God and why every human needs to have a personal relationship with Him.
Jesus is God
To believe that Jesus is God you must first believe that God is the One true God above all. The Bible teaches that without faith it is impossible to please God and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). And to believe that Jesus is God we must believe that the Bible is an historically reliable record. We can also look to historical writings outside of the Bible that verify that the Bible and what it says is true and accurate.
In fact, there are at least three historical miracles that confirm this: (1) Old Testament Prophecy, (2) Jesus’ sinless life and miracles as well as (3) His prediction and resurrection from the dead. Therefore, we can say that Jesus is God. Jesus also taught that the Bible is the Word of God; He confirmed the Old Testament as well as promising the New Testament. Therefore, the Bible is the Word of God. Furthermore, we can see that:
- The testimony of Old Testament Prophets & Apostles. (Deuteronomy 13; 18:22; Daniel 9:2; Luke 10:7; Deuteronomy 25:4; 1 Timothy 5;18; 2 Peter 1:21; 2 Peter 3:16; 2 Corinthians 12:12; Hebrews 2:3-4; Matthew 5:17)
- The testimony and character of Jesus (Matthew 5:17-18; Mark 12:36; Luke 17:27; John 5:46; Matthew 12:40; Luke 11:47; John 14:26; 16:13; John 18:37; John 14:6; Luke 16:31; John 5:36-37; John 5:30-36; John 5:17-18; John 15:26; Romans 1:4)
- Evidence of creation, conscience, conviction and common sense (Psalm 19:1; Romans 1:3, 18-21; 2:13-15; John 16:8; 1 Corinthians 15:6)
- The testimony and character of God (Numbers 23:19; Malachi 3:16)
- Unity of the 66 books of the Bible
- Evidence from manuscripts, archaeology & prophesy
- Jot & tittle, careful, meticulous recording by the scribes
- Age of the manuscripts is very young, written by eyewitnesses of the time
- External epistles were written by men who were there. Dated close to the time of Christ or within about 20 years of His time on Earth. Written in the 1st and 2nd Century.
- Coins, arts, monuments, and other archaeology that exist from that time. Archaeology validated the House of David as well as the existence of Daniel. The Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts alone have much archaeology in it mentioning 32 countries 54 cities and 9 islands that archaeology has confirmed to be true. Caiaphas and Pilot have both been confirmed by archaeology. Josephus (secular historian). Prophesies in Daniel about Medo-Persia and such.
When we believe the Bible is true and that it contains the words of God (Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Ephesians 6:17; John 17:17), we can use it to prove who Jesus is. Not only was He human on Earth but He is God and has been since before the beginning of Earth and time. Jesus confirms this Himself:
- Jesus claims to deserve equal FAITH with God (Hebrews 11:16; Luke 23:43)
- Jesus claims to be the EXCLUSIVE WAY to God (Acts 4:12)
- Jesus claims to be the UNIQUE REVEALER of God (John 14:8-11; John 1:14, 18)
- Jesus claims to be INTIMATE with the Father (John 14:10-11; John 8:26; John 5:17, 23; John 8:12, 24, 28, 31, 46, 58)
- Jesus affirms that we are to pray TO HIM and THROUGH Him (John 14:12-14)
- Jesus demonstrates His divinity by calling for our love and obedience. (John 14:15-24; Matthew 10:37; Acts 5:4; Ephesians 3:17-21)
- Jesus reveals that He is PEACE (John 14:26-31; Romans 5:1)
And Jesus does what God does. He is the Creator of life. He is the sustainer of life. He has power over nature, disease and demons. He is the Way, Truth and Life to the Father. He is the Judge of all the Earth.
The Evidence is Conclusive
Many years ago, I read the book by Lee Strobel “The Case for Christ”. Lee was a lawyer and investigative journalist. He was an unbeliever, but his wife believed the truth of the gospel. To disprove his wife’s convictions, Lee went about setting up a case for Christ – is He or is He not who He said He is? And is what Christians believe about Him true? Dr. Lundgren shared some things from Lee’s book and although I’ve seen it before, the thing that really got me this time was what was called the “fingerprint evidence”. Below is a list of the prophecies about the Messiah that were fulfilled in Christ.

Who do We Need Jesus?
Paradise has been lost, and we live in an imperfect world with imperfect people. Romans 3:10 says, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one”. Some might argue that a good God would never allow evil in His world. If He loves His people, then there would be no evil. The truth of the matter is that God is the Supreme Ruler over all humankind, and He has been since before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). He and Jesus created a perfect place for man to live, and They gave him only one rule – don’t eat from the tree in the middle of the Garden (Genesis 2:15-17). The man and his wife disobeyed God and ate from that tree. This was the first sin. God made everything for man good, and man chose to disobey, thus turning the good into evil. To read more about this see: What Does the Bible Teach About Sin?
So then, if God is in charge, why does He allow evil in the world? The answer is that although God is in control, man has free will; that is to say:
- God is sovereign – Romans 11:33-36
- God is good so He wants to defeat evil
- He is all powerful, so He is able to defeat evil, Evil is not defeated YET
- And man has free will – free will makes evil possible – Proverbs 16:9; Galatians 5:13
- We can choose to love God or curse Him
- We can choose to obey or disobey
The good news is that when we believe that God’s Word is truth, we can know that evil, sin, suffering and death will be defeated one day (Hebrews 2:14-15; Titus 2:11-14; Revelation 21:4-6). The only way to have victory over death is to accept what Jesus did for you (1 Corinthians 15:55-57). To learn more about this visit ‘GOT JESUS’.
Final Thoughts
Jesus is God and the Son of God who came down from His throne in Heaven to offer salvation to a sin cursed world (John 1:1-5). He temporarily lived on Earth as a man and ministered to people everywhere (John 1:14). He was perfect in every way and was without sin (Hebrews 4:15; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:2). When He went to the cross to die for the sins of the world, He did it because He was obedient to what the Father told Him to do, and He did it because He loves us (Romans 5:8; 1 John 4:19).
Understanding the deity of Christ can only be done through the power of the Holy Spirit but it begins with looking for truth and self-study. The evidence is clear, Jesus lived, died and rose from the dead and He is now sitting at the right had of the Father in Heaven. When you believe the gospel of truth, you will be with Him and the Father one day too. I heard a great preacher say, “The worst thing that ever happened in the world, was the best thing. An innocent God-man was crucified and because of that we can be saved from certain death. He conquered death!”
