He Deserves It

“But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.” (2 Corinthians 10:17-18)

This verse is taken from Paul’s second letter to the church at Corinth. He is speaking about how easy it is to get puffed up in our own self. We need to remember that it is the Lord that deserves all the glory.

So many times we can get caught up in the speaker (preacher) and forget that it is Jesus that we are following, not the man that is preaching His word. Paul warns Timothy of this in the following verse:

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 2 Timothy 4:3-4

Look through the man and hear the message. Is he careful to avoid certain “politically incorrect” subjects? Is he even preaching from the Bible or is it some other motivational speech? Test what you are hearing. Get in the Word yourself and study to show yourself approved.

It’s not about the man doing the preaching — It’s about Jesus, give Him the glory, He deserves it!
