Romans 4:13-25 Have you received God’s promise?

Summary: A verse by verse examination of what the book of Romans in the Bible teaches. This message covers Romans 4:13-25, what it means to receive God’s promise.

Bible References:
Romans 4:13-25 ( KJV ) 13For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.  14For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:  15Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.  16Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, 17(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.  18Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.  19And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb:  20He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;  21And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.  22And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. 23Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;  24But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;  25Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Galatians 3:6-9 ( KJV ) 6Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.  7Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.  8And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.  9So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

2 Corinthians 3:5-11 ( KJV ) 5Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; 6Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.  7But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:  8How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?  9For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.  10For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.  11For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

Colossians 1:27 ( KJV ) 27To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

Colossians 2:13 ( KJV ) 13And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

1 Timothy 1:1 ( KJV ) 1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;

Hebrews 6:17-20 ( KJV ) 17Wherein God, willing more abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:  18That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:  19Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;  20Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Hebrews 10:35-39 ( KJV ) 35Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward.  36For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.  37For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.  38Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.  39But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
