Nehemiah 3 Part G – The Wisdom of the Word and the water gate

Summary: A verse by verse examination of what the Bible teaches about planning. Studying through Nehemiah this message focuses on Nehemiah 3, the water gate.

Bible References:

Nehemiah 3:26-27 26Moreover the Nethinims dwelt in Ophel, unto the place over against the water gate toward the east, and the tower that lieth out.  27After them the Tekoites repaired another piece, over against the great tower that lieth out, even unto the wall of Ophel.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  17That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

2 Peter 1:20-21 20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.  21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Proverbs 30:5-6 5Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.  6Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Revelation 22:17-19 17And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.  18For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:  19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Deuteronomy 4:1-2 1Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.  2Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

Proverbs 2:1-9 1My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;  2So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;  3Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;  4If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;  5Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.  6For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.  7He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.  8He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.  9Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

Proverbs 9:10 10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

James 1:5-8 5If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.  6But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.  7For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.  8A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

1 Corinthians 1:27-31 27But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;  28And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:  29That no flesh should glory in his presence.  30But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:  31That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

Isaiah 40:8 8The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

Romans 15:4 4For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

Isaiah 9:3 3Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

Mark 1:2 2As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

Malachi 3:1 1Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.
